How To Make Garden Stakes
As you might know, I grew up on a very large farm. I guess you could say that farming & gardening is in my blood. My husband and I are even lucky enough to have our very own farm.
As a child & teenager, I can still remember the many summer days I spent with my mom & dad working in the garden and fields. While I didn't love every second of pulling weeds or hoeing the garden, I'm so happy that they made me stick it out at times.
Today, it's one of the things that I enjoy the most!
Basically, when I think of summer time, I think of farming and gardening. And today, I'm sharing some really cute and really easy garden plant stakes.
I just love them!
To start, I bought a $3.00 pack of stakes from Home Depot.
Once I got them home, I typed up a list of our vegetables, made sure they would fit on the stakes, and printed them out.
I gave each stake a light white wash with equal parts water and white paint.
So easy…. I didn't even sand them smooth. I left them just like they came.
I cut around each of my words…
Then flipped them over and covered the entire backside with blue chalk.
I made sure to evenly space each of the words onto the stake, then used a pencil to trace around each letter a couple of times…
I pulled off the paper and was left with a faint outline of each letter.
Then, I traced each letter with my pencil.
Once all the words were traced onto the stakes, I was ready to paint!
I mixed a few different colors to make a dark blue/ black color. Then I used a small brush to hand paint each letter.
It really didn't take that long!
I tried to make sure and paint as close to the pencil outline as possible, but there were still a few areas where you could see the pencil marks…
I used an eraser and erased over the entire word….
I did that to the rest of them, and they were done!
I seriously contemplated sealing them with something, but I think they will only look better as they age outside. Plus, they're so easy to make, I don't mind touching them up every now and then.
I just love them!
Simplicity at it's best!
They've added the perfect touch to our garden!
Here they are in action:
Have I mentioned that I love them?
Well, I do. A whole bunch…
They're the perfect pop against the lovely green in our garden…
This year, our garden is in a field of corn in front of my parents house…. These little markers add the perfect unexpected touch to a huge field!
That makes my heart happy.
There you have it…. the easiest and cutest garden plant stakes you ever did see.
This is summer for me and my family!
